An engineer for a local electrical utility, the owner installed the system to reduce the amount of heat gain to the home. After receiving quotes from roofing companies for the addition of a second roof, the owner decided that the energy produced by the photovoltaic system warranted the additional investment. Since its installation in Fall 2005, the system has produced Megawatt hours of electricity and has offset hundreds of tons of carbon dioxide which would otherwise exist due to conventional electricity generation.
